I am not sure what many sources say. I have been under the impression that The Northern Club was the first legal gambling club and that they were granted a licence in 1931 after years as an illegal room.
As for the kids, I think you are correct in that saying that some just stopped "pushing" the kid friendly idea, but many others activly changed their business. Everything from re-branding their restaurants and getting rid of the video and game arcades to adopting much more mature decor. New attractions and shows like Zumanity at NYNY really showed how many were actively trying to shift from families to adults in their target demographics
