With most chips you look them up in the guides. The Chip Rack is the definitive listing for Nevada chips -- that's where the TCR numbers come from that identify Nevada chips. This predates the MOGH ChipGuide. The Campiglia & Wells US Price Guide has some great features, too, and also lists many other US chips in addition to Nevada. If you have no clue where to start (like with this no location chip), just post a pic on TheChipBoard, and someone is bound to know something.

I did get a question earlier today (see my ebay listing for details) about the true origin of the chip. I did some research and I now know that The Chip Rack has this chip 'attributed to' the Thunderbird in Vegas. That means it is suspected to originate from there, but it is not confirmed. THe US Price Guide has it as a Vegas Thunderbird chip.
