Westen, GREAT PICK UP!!
Difficult answer!!
While the Sans Souci was open, blacks did not go to casinos. If one did, he would probably not get kicked out, but would be the subject of so many looks that he would leave the place.
The blacks in Cuba had their own clubs, casinos and life. Separate from the white and would rarely mingle. The white Cubans were very racist, but would not verbalize it in public or publish it. The mulattos and blacks were not allowed in high class clubs. But, racism did not stop there. Mulattos also did not accept blacks in their clubs or mingle with them. And blacks did not allow mulattos or whites in their clubs. So, racism was rampant in Cuba, but again , it was not publicized.!!
So, if it meant "white", it would be a nicely hidden word. But, also, "wites" were used to describe Americans and therefore, the "highest class". So, answer is somewhere above. Is that an original cup? or a replica?
Now, keep in mind that the "Jefe" Batista had strong Chinese and mulatto blood, so, hwile he was on top, people were even more careful as to what they said!!
I will do my research with the Cubans in the island and will get back to you, if I can get the answer, probably in a couple of days, regardless of what it is, is a very important finding regarding how society worked in those years.
