Mary was thirty-four years old and her mother despaired of her ever
finding a husband.
Then, one evening, Mary brought home a lovely, if rather not-too-smart
looking young man, whom she introduced to her mother. They then had
dinner.
It started to rain hard, and there was thunder and lightning, so severe,
that Mary's mother said to the visitor, "It is far too wet out there for you
to go home tonight. Now you just sit there and Mary and I will fix up our
spare room so you can stay here tonight. OK?"
The young man agreed to stay the night. Mother and Mary went upstairs
to ready the guest room. When they got back downstairs, the visitor was
standing there soaking wet and dripping water all over the floor.
"Where... what ...how come you're so wet?"
"I had to go home to get my pajamas."
