When TCR catalog numbers change

It seems to me that in years past, when TCR catalogers decided to change a chip's designation, there was a note in the next edition giving the old vs. new numbers and the reason.

I submitted varieties of the Paulson metal inlay chips used at Club Cal Neva about 10-12 years ago and they were given unique numbers (see scan). It isn't clear to me why these were changed and what the new equivalents now are. There are some entries that have notes about thick and thin lettering, but that isn't very clear (in the past, it has related to different type faces on a printed inlay).

The differences I saw in the metal inlays were more than the type face; the surface texture of the background was different, as was the detail in the outer circle on the inlay. I know that surface wear can change the appearance of the raised devices on the inlay and I tried to eiliminate that aspect when showing what I think were different designs.

The distinctions in detail and the differing catalog numbers are becoming even more important now that scans are being put into the MOGH database. I was going to submit the varieties as I see them, but I'm not sure what to call them.

How about a comment and explanation of the re-numbering practices from the current TCR authors?
