A few thoughts on recent Ebay bidder experiences

Let me first start by saying that while I have bought a ton of stuff on Ebay over the years, I haven't done that much selling so this is rather new to me.

I have absolutely no problems at all with Ebays fee structures that I often hear so many complain about as that is how they make money.

Don’t like what they charge, sell somewhere else.

However I have made several observations over the past month or so that I find interesting about customers and wanted to see if other sellers experience the same things.

1) Why would someone make a "Best Offer" at less that 1/2 of what an item is listed for? I have had numerous "Offers" on chips that I had listed with a BIN or best offer that were less than 25% of what I have them listed for. Who in their right mind makes an offer of $50 for a chip I listed at $500. Really?
Don’t those people know its an insult to the seller?

If I see something listed at $500 and I am only willing to pay $100 for it, I wouldn’t even bother making an offer. If I am truly interested and the seller is taking offers, then I may consider making an offer of $350-$400, but to offer $100, Who does that ????

Am I wrong?

2) Retracted Bids - In the 15-20 years I have been bidding on Ebay I have NEVER retracted a bid with tens of thousands made. However it seems this is commonplace with many bidders, especially on non casino related items.
If I am not mistaken each bidder is aware that their bid is a legally binding contract. I don’t care if you say you just lost your job, your long lost aunt just died, or the dog ate your wallet. If you bid on an item of mine, I expect you to honor that bid, just as I will honor any bids I make.

Ebay makes it way to easy to retract a bid saying you "Bid Wrong Amount" which is a joke. Yes if the current bid is $40 and you bid $500 that may be a Wrong amount bid.
But if the current bid is $40 and you bid $50 how can that be wrong? Did you mean to bid $41? Some people bid retract all the time and I just don’t understand that.

3) Bidders who email you after an auction to buy something that didn’t sell and then never come thru sending money. This has happened to me several times now where someone that had been asking questions during the auction makes me an offer once the auction has ended that I accept (In some cases I have actually ended the auction) and then you never hear from them again. Why even contact someone about making a purchase unless you are willing to complete a deal in the first place?

Am I wrong? Does everyone experience these same things?

Just some ramblings for a Sunday morning.
