I'm not aware of any problems between Reno and Tahoe collectors.
Or maybe I'm not understanding your question.
As for Hotels at Lake Tahoe I think the best on the north side is the Hyatt Regency in Incline.
A little pricey but it's the nicest hotel at the Lake, good food, they even have their own private beach.
And casino, of course.
The Cal-Neva is being remodeled and when reopened should be nice.
Lots of history there and close to the other casinos in Crystal Bay.
On the south side there is Harvey's, Harrah's or the Monte Bleu, if the big hotel/casino thing is what you're looking for. More nightlife and entertainment on the south side, too.
Generally speaking, the north shore is less populated and more laid-back.
The south shore is much more populated with more going on.
But it's a nice drive going back and forth ... very scenic.
