I used to work at the American Motors assembly plant in Kenosha WI and parts plant in Milwaukee. Everyone makes fun of the AMC Pacer but look at the bestselling car that came out 10 years later - almost identical to the Pacer. It is the Ford Taurus. When I worked in Milwaukee we had the original "body in white" of the Pacer stored there. The body in white is the complete metal skin of the car with no paint on it and no trim. While I was there they sent a company to pick it up for destruction. I tried like crazy to stop them from crushing that body but no one would listen. Here is the 1975 2 door Pacer:
And here is the 1997 4 door Taurus:
I may be imagining things but they look very similar to me. The idea of both was to be very aerodynamic. I think AMC was just 20 years ahead of its time.
