This is exactly the info I was looking for (although like most of us, I still don't really have an answer ). Given the estimated time period of manufacture, it doesn't surprise me that the fonts match – there were really only a dozen or so standard typesetting fonts to choose from. However, perhaps there's something telling in the letter spacing. When I aligned the two stamps, they were clearly made from two different dies. I don't know about 70+ years ago, but in my own experience, once I've paid for a die, it belongs to me … regardless of how many or what manufacturer I take my project to. Does it seem odd to you that these dies don't match?
