Well, I stopped by the local coin shop (again) and they had a few, new arrivals! One of which was the Henderson, NV, Rainbow Club, HCE quarter (lower right). This chip is listed as N4137 in TCR. I bought it not realizing that I already had one.
However, when I went to file it away, I then discovered that I already had one. But, upon closer examination, it had a drill hole in it and a weak hot-stamp. I then flipped it over, to see if the hot-stamp on the other side was any better, and I was surprised to find that the hot-stamp was non-existent. Not weak, but not there at all!
So, what is it? I don't know, but it was used (in play somewhere) as the edges are nicked and rounded. Hash lines are 20% worn down (both sides). And NO, I am NOT mistaken, the blank side was never hot-stamped. There are no tell-tale indications of a hot-stamp that has been worn off or subtle, residual indentations of the hot-stamp die.
Any ideas? An unused money clip or belt buckle chip that was cancelled (drilled) but ended up in-play? Not likely, but hey, stranger things have been known to happen.
Thanks for looking!
Jim
