Sounds like you are okay with allowing potential "wrongs" to take place because the end result is so good...

I don't like that justification at all.

I don't believe the issue at hand is what they do with your scans after you upload them.

To me it sounds like the real issue at hand is the fact that it is known that some folks have been taking other people's scans and uploading those to the site and have been given credit for the scan. Seems wrong to me.

ok, so some folks say they don't give a hoot if their scans are taken. That's fine for them. But if others in our hobby are upset about their scans being used without their knowledge or consent, then actions should be taken to fix and prevent this from happening.
