New Information on Old Dice. “Victory” vs. “Victory Club”
Which dice were used where? Previously, it has been listed in various guides that dice used at the Victory Club in Toledo, an illegal, unlicensed gambling club, bore one word: “Victory.” We know of a few locations in a few different states that went by the name of The Victory Club. Here are a few:
• Victory Club (1941-1952) – Toledo, OH (illegal, unlicensed)
• Victory Club (1944-1970) - Las Vegas, NV
• Tommy’s Victory Club (1933-1954) - Carson City, NV
• Victory Club (1950s) – Pittman, Nevada
• Carson Victory Club (1973-1991)– Carson City, Nevada
What was once thought to be dice from the Victory Club in Toledo…merely had “Victory” in print. HOWEVER, after re-reading some newspaper articles on the Victory Club of Toledo that I have collected over time, I discovered documentation that the printing on dice found in Toledo during a raid was two words “Victory Club” not one word “Victory,” as previously thought. It was detailed in a Toledo Blade newspaper article on July 18, 1946. The article states: “Dice Discovered .… they found several bundles of dice in the Victory Club. The dice in one bundle bore the words Victory Club on them.”
Recently a cache of 28 new, unopened B.C. Wills dice with the words “Victory Club” (see below picture) were discovered in Zanesville, Ohio. I believe these to be the dice used in Toledo.
Below is the listing for the Victory Club in 2004 “Collector’s Guide to Casino Dice-Las Vegas.” Notice the dice on the top right with the bullseye....this is the exact dice that has be previously listed as being used n Toledo. Your toughts are always welcome.
