Jay, you suggest, "Maybe you (meaning me) have the dates reversed? "
The reason I believe my dates are correct is because I have another photo (postcard) of the Tahoe Palace from that time period:
I was also given the following information from Greg (a fellow club member #R-7469) which seems to support my dates:
"I think the end date of the Plaza is wrong. I found a few references that has the Plaza first, then the same owners of the Palace in Reno purchased the Plaza.
Tahoe Plaza (1954-1961)
Tahoe Palace (1956-1959)
Sold to Harrah’s in 195?
Location was: 15 Highway 50, Stateline, NV
Per Dwayne Kling, who worked at Harrah’s Tahoe: “In 1957 when I went there, next door to Harrah’s Club there was the Wagon Wheel, which is now called Harvey’s. Across the street there was Sahati’s Country Club, a club called the Main Entrance, and a place called the Nevada Club….Further on down the road there was a place originally called the Tahoe Village and later called Oliver’s Club. In other years there was a smaller place opened called the Tahoe Plaza, which later became the Tahoe Palace, and there was a place called the Glass Crutch.”
Per Warren Nelson, who worked and owned 3% of the Palace Club in Reno between 1955-1962, “At that same time, the same partners and a few extra ones went up to the Lake and bought a place and built a place called Tahoe Plaza….We had it for two years, I believe, and it was really messed up…We had a meeting and decided to sell it. Harrah’s was gonna buy it, and we were gonna sell it.”
Unfortunately there were no specific dates mention, just time frames, but I think we could assume that the Tahoe Plaza was first, then the Tahoe Palace. Hope this helps."
