I am planning to go to Vegas for the Super Bowl chip show in February 2014. I haven't been to the show in a couple of years. I was planning on going for a couple of weeks Jan. 28th - Feb. 11 and going to Phoenix, San Diego, LA, etc.
I can get a room in Vegas for 7 days for less than $100.00 (small charge for Friday and Saturday night) and the other 5 days comped. I also can get free rooms in Phoenix and San Diego with my Harrah's Diamond card. Plus staying with some friends in LA for a couple of nights at no cost.
Airfare from Philly to Vegas on Southwest is less than $200.00 - that's great !!
And then there is the dreaded "Car Rental", Two weeks of car rental - Midsize (I have to be able to fit in the car) is around $900.00 !!! Holy crap Batman !! Plus gas for a couple of 1000 miles of creeping around Nevada, Arizona and California at $4.00 a gallon and you are looking at $1300.00++. That's about $100.00 a day for the car !!
Solution - I will stay in Vegas for 7 days and walk or take the bus/taxi or bum a ride with some friendly chippers and keep the $1300.00 in my pocket. That's a lot of money saved for chips or slot play !!!
I guess I'm spoiled by driving my own car cross country and not hassling with car rentals. I was on the road for 30 days back and forth to the Convention and drove 8000+ miles and it cost me less than what the car rental would be for the Super Bowl trip.
Take care,
