Rick, I agree with Bill.
Try renting one first.
They are generally an expensive toy.
Great for capturing certain types images, but after you've used one for a while,
you tend to run out of reasons to keep using it.
For sure wont be a lens your son will be using all that often.
Better to put your money into a lens he can get more use from.
