Our old desktop was a Dell. One of the problems it was having was a black screen...but I think it was before log-in. Anyway, tapping the F-12 key after turning on the computer would bring up a screen...had to click on Drive C, if I remember right, and the computer would work.
After a few other issues, we replaced the computer. It's not a Dell (it's an Acer), but it has windows 8, and no touch screen. It offers some kind of hand signal option that we haven't turned on. I don't LIKE Windows 8, but for the most part I've been able to figure out how to make it do almost what I want it to do.
For example; pressing the Windows key, along with the E key is almost like clicking on "my computer" in earlier versions.
From the "charm" page (I think that's what they call 'em) you can right-click on the background, which will bring up an "all apps" button...which is similar to clicking on "all programs"
We also got a new scanner/printer hooked up at the same time (got it as a Christmas gift), and I don't know how to use it either. Sigh...I'm almost hopeless!!
But I'm trying...!!
