In the late 60's, several casinos in Nevada decided to salt some of their slot machines with specially-colored tokens that could be redeemed for a premium. This Frontier Hotel token is one of them. A 1967 Franklin Mint design that was in current use in nickel-silver was produced brass-plated so it was easily recognized as a promotional token. I don't know how many were made, but they are rare and hardly ever seen today. Janice O'Neal cataloged this varient as number 0160. It was also offered in Howdy Herz' Auction Catalog #1 in September 1991.
I got one for my collection for the first time at this year's Convention. I found a second one in a dealer's display before I realized I had purchased one from the O'Neal collection that week. I had never seen one before. This variant was not in any of the FM collector sets produced in 1967.
I'd rate it as Used, Extra Fine with few if any hopper marks as they seldom got recycled by players.
You can add this special to your Nevada collection for $25. I pay postage.
