its a pretty good way to save a few bucks. When I applied for Nexus (because I was doing a lot of cross US/Canada work) it was a $50 fee plus the interview. As part of Nexus the ability to use Global Entry is added (which if you applied directly for that is $100). And because I had GE, then was invited to the early offering of TSA Pre.
I've been lucky with that as Delta participates in LAS. They have added this to security in PHL (my other home airport) but Delta has not joined the program, hopefully soon. They have also added Pre-check for international trips (about a month ago now) so leaving from LAS to YYC via Delta is really not too bad.
