I first heard them referred to as lammers back in the 80's when I first started playing in WSOP satellites at the Horseshoe. A good 10 years before I started collecting chips.
So while I do not argue how the term is used as you point out, it has been used for NCV Buy In chips also for many years. Below are just a couple of links where people also use lammer to refer to NCV Buy In chips. So, it is not like I am the only one. It is a commonly used word to describe NCV Buy In chips. At least in the poker community.
