...a Field bet is a bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12. If a 5 is rolled, no Field bet is paid - all lose. Hence, 5, no Field.
The Field isn't a good bet, even though it pays on so many numbers. The house advantage is 5.56%, about the same as roulette. Betting the Pass line and taking double odds, though, reduces the house advantage to less than 1%. (Actually, 0.76% if I recall correctly.)
