Sometimes the sheet being printed will shift slightly in between the two printings. This is usually a function of the first pressing (plate impression) having the sheet stick to it and falling back into place (but slightly off) before the second plate makes contact.

I don't believe that this condition is called an registration error, but the end result of both conditions are similar.

I'll bet that Jim Steffner can give us a professional explanation. vbg
