For the most part, not all, that LE's were the cause of the arguments. Who got the LE's first and who could buy them all if possible. I read people made their "living" selling LE's back in the days. Jealousy and under-handiness seemed to prevail a bit on the tone of the posts. Who could out do who at a LE chip coming out that morning. Some people backed Renee up as he used to donate $$$ to the Building Fund. Seemed he also organized some more chip shows through out the year including the Super Show. Some people didn't back Renee as they said he made deals with casinos to hog all the LE's when they came out. Myself I have no opinion because I was not around then so I know nothing first hand.
Well the LE market sure dropped off and now many, not all, of the chips sell for less than face. The NGC put the end so it seems to most LE's now anyways. Was interesting reading, but wow the in-fighting back them was elevated I would say.
When all is said and done you can tell the people with a passion for the hobby, that would be anyone who is still around 10 years later and still collect chips for the sake of the hobby even if profits fell way off and no longer can you make anything off of LE releases. In fact I would say many of the passionate people of the hobby will be found around the Splash Bar at night consuming the brew they like the best as they catch up with each other on another year gone past.
I do like Storage Wars so at least I know the background of Rene in the chip club. His wife is much easier to look at though.
