Going too far or growing the hobby?

When I started collecting chips, only two short years ago, I didn't know there was anything else casino related to collect.

While looking up chips on the ChipGuide I saw the matchbooks, the key fobs, Titos, players cards, strikes, postcards and a myriad assortment of casino items. I was fascinated by how the ChipGuide showed the evolution of gaming and marketing over the years.

My personal feeling is that the ChipGuide's inclusion of everything gaming related, and the accessible way in which it's divided and searchable is an enhancement to the hobby. It only increases the exposure of the hobby and preserves parts of gaming history that easily could have found their way into a trash can.

Don,
I can very much see your point from someone who has been collecting chips for many years. It's a good point. After all it's called the "Chip" Guide! However, I often see the question here and on the "Club" board regarding attracting new members. I was one of those new people and the broad scope of interest illustrated by the ChipGuide and related boards was one of the things that encouraged me to join. (Disclaimer: Yes, I know this board is in no way related to the club)

I think of the club as the leading resource of people who know about chips and their history. But there are also many names that come to mind when it comes to related casino items and their history. I just thought of "Patches" and Jim Mundig came to mind. A few messages up from here Pam posted some matchbooks with great graphics and history. Think of other casino related items and other names will pop into your head.

Chips are the root of the tree but the branches hold a delightful variety of fruit.
