That were made for the club.
I personally spoke with the guy that made the tokens for the last 20+ years.
He told me that 10+ years ago he used to make one or two lead proofs to see how the designs came out. He sant these proofs to whomever his contact was at that time. He couldnt say exactly who they went to, but I assume wither the Convention Chair or The Designer of the token for that year.
He didnt make them every year and for at least the past 10 years this proofing was done with pictures and not on the lead test.
With that being said, there ARE some of these out there in someones hands.
How many, not sure but there are VERY few.
As far as "Proofs", All other tokens made were proof like struck on the same silver and brass as they always have been. It could be that the first ones made looked a little newer or that the ones that were not numbered looked a little better. But I was told NO Silver or Brass Proofe were ever made.
There were however a number of these silvers produced each year that were un-numbered. Since we pay for the number engraving on them, some were ordered without any numbers for those that didnt order the same numbers regularly.
Thats what I was told and thats what I believe.
Being intimately involved with the tokens for the past 6 years as both the Treasurer and President, I have no doubt that this is correct.
The ONLY way a "Proof" could have been made on any other material is for someone to take the original die and get one made after the fact. If this happened, it was not made by the original token manufacturer.
