to discuss it as the thread may have had several unintended negative impacts on both the club and the hobby.
1) Our largest advertiser in the magazine this month was just called out for doing exactly what our guidelines and COE suggest they do.
If I were representing Heritage I would seriously consider whether or not to continue advertising in the magazine or for that matter even holding chip auctions anymore. This could have a huge negative impact on the hobby as it could cause all that great exposure to go away.
2) By calling out someone for doing what I feel was the "Right" thing by following the COE, we may be encouraging folks to not play by the rules in fear that they may receive the same sort of criticism. Had Heritage not mentioned that they chip had been repaired and it not been noticeable this post never would have been made and they would have gotten accolades for promoting the hobby.
Now I am absolutely certain that neither of these side effects were intended or possibly even considered when the thread was started, but I think we need to discuss exactly what the policy is once again and make it public knowledge so that there are no misunderstandings.
There is no doubt that everyone in the thread has nothing but good intension's.
