I often read these kind of threads, and admit that I don't often comment purely because there is no correct answer in most cases.
But I was thinking the same as I read through this thread - I have comments about the magazine that match many of these made, both pro and con (for what it's worth, I would move the club info to the rear and move the more interesting articles up front and maybe reduce colour if that makes any saving), but I do enjoy the magazine even if most of my interactions are on-line. But my point - what else would the money be spent on? I can't get to the convention while it is held in school term time, so I wouldn't benefit from more cash spent there although I appreciate that many people would. I do visit the club website as well as TCB and am happy for spend to ensure the club website is maintained. What else? Not sure - maybe advertising elsewhere IF there is spare funding available, but no desire to have more than could be afforded otherwise. So I still ask what else would we spend the savings on, especially why the club is making a small surplus.
I also would make the point that I have opinions on what I would like the club to do and not do, but for a range of reasons I do not assist in the running of the club - like many, I am happy to pay my dues and appreciate the efforts of those who do. And relying on volunteers and elected board members means that I give my vote to those people to run the club. I know if I really didn't like what was happening, then I could do more myself or leave, but I won't because I accept that it is not possible to please everyone all the time, even when it may be me that is not pleased.
I may not agree with everything, but overall I am happy with how our club is run for my benefit and I hope that I never have cause to think otherwise.
