Save it, David, here is my original reply:
As a small business owner Doug, I absolutely cringe every time I see the HUGE percentage of club revenue that goes towards the mag. I don't care how nice the mag is, the math is so out of whack, and that ratio is very hard to justify.
I do not mean to besmirch those who work so hard to get the magazine out. At some point tho, we need to ask ourselves if the prize is worth the contest.
Where am I attacking you, or the club there? You jumped all over me with your snarky "are you aware?" routine. Do you think I was attacking something there? I am speaking up on behalf of the financial viability of the Club. I am concerned, as, I know you are, and I have a different opinion of what is prudent. If you interpret that as an attack, you are probably should not be in a leadership position. This was not an either/or argument. I was part of the debate 2 years ago, and I agree that going to a strictly on-line format would not work. But if you know so much about publishing, answer this question-----how much would we save if we went to a 16 page partial color print newspaper format published quarterly, and would we still be able to satisfy out 501(c) obligations and our duty to membership correspondence via that method? I looked into it and it first glance, we would save a lot more that 10% and we would satisfy both obligations.
I apologize if my hackles are raised, I don't like being lectured to.
