I've Been There

The Nevele is an old Catskills Mountain resort. The Catskills are famous as the birth place of Burlesque. When I was in high school I worked in several resorts in the Catskills during the summer. I didn't work at the Nevele, but I did visit it several times. The Catskills were popular as a resort destination for New York City residents pre-WWII and for some time afterwards. It is a 2 to 3 hour drive north of NYC. As air travel became more affordable in the 1950's and 60's, New Yorkers started going to more exotic locations, especially in the Caribbean. That began the slow and steady decline of the Catskills. Today the Catskills barely have a pulse. It would be great to see a casino up there, but it would have to be legit, not like the joints that came before it in that area.
