John, allow me to clarify a bit...

As a long-time resident of the City of Los Angeles, and a poker player (since around 1970), I have been aware that the City of Los Angeles did not allow licensed card rooms. While card rooms are legal in California, it is left to local municipalities (cities) to allow or prohibit them. I do not know how long that has been in effect, which is why I ask if anyone is aware of any licensed operation in the City of Los Angeles.

I have seen in ChipGuide and also in several of the price guides/catalogues of California, references to "card room" chips for postal zones within the City of Los Angeles (Hollywood, North Hollywood, Van Nuys) where the statutes of the City of Los Angeles have applicability and "licensed" card rooms could not have been present. Therefore, the places referenced were either illegal operations, fraternal clubs, private games (home poker sets) but not "card rooms" in the sense that California has licensed "card rooms".

While this may all be splitter hairs, I was just looking for greater insight for a definition of "card rooms" when used in ChipGuide.

Thanks,

Jim
