Not a lot of info available on the place. I just discovered that one of my "go to" sites on Las Vegas Strip history apparently is gone (O.K. I haven't been to the site for quite awhile...but it was a fantastic site, with a ton of information. )
So...the next "go to" is Fuller's Index, also "Saito Chat" . (Saito Chat is my partial-index of various auction catalogs...many of them the "Chip Chat" catalogs...that are published by Doug Saito, who is a wealth of information and casino tidbits )
Fuller says it was licensed from 1-8-47 until ?1948? for slots, 21, craps and roulette; looks like Shipley was the name on the license.
Saito says that during most of the 1950's the casino was dormant, but did operate as a motel only.
April 10, 1958 the Desert Spa was licensed again (Saito says five individuals were licensed, Fuller says one of the names was Maltby), for slots, 21, craps and roulette. Reportedly, stripper Candy Barr was the opening act (I'm assuming the 1958 opening, not the 1947 opening...could be wrong on that). Early in 1958 the Desert Spa was destroyed by fire.
We don't have much from the Desert Spa, but here's what we have...
