I traded a chip to a fellow collector in Australia. Just one chip. Put it in a bubble envelope, weighed it - under 1 ounce, filled out the customs form and brought it to the post office. They wanted $6.55 for 1st class international mail service - package or large envelope rate - no extras like insurance or delivery confirmation!!! I was able to stop the clerk before he put the postage on.
Took the bubble envelope home. Cut it into 1/3's, put the chip in and taped the open side closed. Put the bubble envelope into a regular business envelope and sealed it with packing tape. Still under 1 ounce. Now only $1.30 for 1st class international mail - regular envelope with surcharge for a rigid object. And no customs form.
What is the USPS thinking about? I don't think it would be bad if they went bankrupt and let someone else take over.
