Info from an auction I lost and a little research on E. A. Gould
Booklet titled "How You Can Be Sure They're Square", published 1936 by the E.A.Gould Co., Kansas City, Missouri, manufacturers of "Gould Canned Dice" Fifteen pages describe the dangers faced by players from dice that aren't "square" and the assurance you get from using "Gould Canned Dice"Interesting read for the "Craps' shooter!!!!!!Good condition.
You are bidding on an unopened can of Gould casino dice along with a large, ornate vintage framed certificate attesting to the authenticity and trueness of Gould Canned Dice. The Gould dice lot also includes two match books that were Gould’s primary advertising vehicle in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
The certificate will make a wonderful, vintage decorative addition to a game room.
The certificate reads:
“This is to certify that this club has been authorized to use Gould Canned Dice. The operators of this club have complied with all of the requirements necessary to receive this franchise. One Thousand Dollars in cash will be paid to anyone who can show that any dice bearing the authorized signature of E.A. Gould were not perfectly true when originally taken from the can. It is understood that this franchise remains the property of E.A. Gould and can be withdrawn at any time without notice.”
The certificate includes a gold leaf “$1000 Cash”, an embossed gold seal with blue silk ribbon and the ink signature “E. A. Gould.” See detail images. The certificate is behind glass and mounted in a large, heavy 20” x 23 ½” gold frame.
To really make this unique, old piece of casino memorabilia something truly special, the bidding package also includes an old, authentic sealed can of Gould Dice from the E.A. Gould Company of Kansas City, MO along with two advertising matchbooks.
The certificate appears to be in perfect condition. The frame and the can of dice show some signs of wear and age that only add to their appeal. The advertising matchbooks are in rough shape.
The package appears to be from somewhere is the early 1900s but there is no date on either item. I was informed that later Gould Franchise Certificates eventually carried award values of $5,000 and finally $10,000.
An advertising match pack cover for dice. It is printed in color and gold. The outside is shown but there is an offer inside for a free dice book. There is no matches or striker section. It pictures serial numbered dice and is marked with advertising from:
GOULD DICE
E.A. GOULD,
3051 McGEE ST.
KANSAS CITY, MO.
From looking at the packaging and the dice ... it is my guess that they were a manufacturer from the 1920-1940's
