Most photo programs have a brightness adjustment. Many times I have scanned several very light colored chips and a few dark chips in the same scan and the dark ones come out unreadable. I just use the adjustment program to lighten the whole thing and the dark ones suddenly are readable and the light ones normally are still Ok. Too much lightening and the light ones get washed out.
