I am pretty anal about the way I scan my chips. Thanks to the guidance of super collector and all around good guy Terry Schaffer (he's got 'em by the box), I now scan them every time at the same dpi in the same sized square (1.68 inches by 1.68 inches, square). I place the chip on the glass as best I can and then rotate it until I am satisfied with the alignment, sometimes many times. I have photoshop, but prefer to do it manually. On occasion, being drawn to older Caribbean chips, I get a chip that does not appear to have all of the elements aligned on a square grid. It is artistic and can look quite nice, but it presents an issue: How do I align this chip.
I just got a chip from Michael James. Thank you Michael. I think it's a very nice chip from the Flamboyan on Puerto Rico. It is one of those chips where things just don't sit square to one another on the chip. I think I know which way I like the chip aligned. Which way do you like.
First, with the dollar signed straight up and down:
Next, so the text is equally high at the beginning of the first word and the end of the last:
Third, so the sides of the denomination are straight up and down:
And finally with the base of the denomination flat in relation to the bottom of the scan:
So, which scan would you choose?
Isn't this hobby fun?
