Wes,
I believe you and Mike are both right on track. My primary concern with the broad area of "gun control" is that it is a VERY "slippery slope." I live in California which already has significant gun laws in effect including a long "waiting" or "cooling off" period before receiving certain weapons after purchase. Magazines or clips that hold more than ten rounds are illegal to possess here.
However, watch the news and you will see that Californians still experience on-going violence between gangs, shootings that almost always claim an innocent life, arrests that reveal multiple gun ownership (most all of which are stolen, unlawful, or otherwise illegal for the ones being arrested to own!) Criminals can access guns if they choose, regardless of our (the people) best intentions.
There are many issues that need to be included in the present discussions being conducted by Vice President Biden and others. Recognizing and acting on signs of serious mental disturbance and provision of support to parents, teachers and others who may view such potential problems are some of these issues.
Our government is designed to be run by the decisions of our collective representatives. When I see Executive Decision being used to replace and or bypass congressional action, I am very concerned.
