We have an external hard drive on our computer. I've created hundreds of folders on the drive, with casino names, containing thousands of scans of our stuff (not all of our stuff...it's a work in progress). There's also other miscellaneous folders and scans on the drive.
On New Year's day I opened the drive...which opened verrrrrry slooooooowly...
The first quirky thing that happened (once it finally opened) is that a box popped up that said something like "Disc in drive F is not formatted. Format disc now?" What.....??? I've been using that expansion drive for at least 2 years (probably 3) and that's never popped up before??? I X'd out of that box. Then I had the curser on the Sparks Nugget folder, and a little box opened that said "folder empty". Impossible!
I closed out of the expansion drive, and opened it up again. A TON of folders have disappeared!!! Alphabetically, every folder after Mizpah is gone . There's still some photos and word files that show up after the folders...but the last folder is Mizpah.
Sooooo...not sure if it was the computer or the expansion drive (or just me, having a meltdown), I plugged the expansion drive into the laptop. I opened the drive, and the last folder was Gay 90's!!!! YIKES!!!!!
Plugged it back into the desktop, and the folders between Gay 90's and Mizpah have returned.
In the laptop, the drive says it has 460 items on it. In the desktop it has 583. There are 123 folders between Gay 90's and Mizpah.
Any idea where my folders from Mizpah to Zimba's (and zzzchina & glassware, zzzFremont St. Postcards, zzzMisc. Paper stuff, etc.) might have gone??? And will they come back???
When plugged into the laptop, where did the 123 missing files go?
I tried reorganizing the drive...sorting it from z to a...to see if any other folders might reappear; they didn't. I tried plugging it into a different usb port...didn't help.
I'll freak out if I have to rescan everything....and I've had the expansion drive on the laptop before; I would have sworn all of the folders were there....?????
Oh yeah...on the desktop it used to call it "expansion drive e". For the last few months its called it "expansion drive f". But the laptop calls it "expansion drive e". Does that mean anything??
