A few weeks back I sold some Curzon House 100 Pound Plaques. After selling the Plaques there was quite a bit of discussion about the smell and decomposition of these and other similar older style plastic plaques. I later talked to a fellow collector who has an engineering and science background about these plaques. He outlined to me a process to help "preserve" this style of plastic Plaques. Outlined below is the "preservation" prcedure I used with great success on the Curzon Plaques.
Step 1. - Clean the Plaque with "Goof Off" (A paint remover product that can be bought in the paint depatrtment of Home Depot and other stores). I used the liquid form of "Goof Off" - it also comes in spray and paste form.
Step 2. - Cover the Lunette with a coat of clear Finger Nail Polish and alow to dry completely. The Lunette is where the smell comes from on these Plaques.
Step 3. - Apply a paste car wax to the entire surface of the Plaque.
Shown below is a before and after of one of the Curzon Plaques that I "preserved". The resuts of the above "treatment" is clearly visable and the smell has been virtually eliminated.
This preservation method can only been done to Plaques that are not severly decomposed. If the plaques are warped or flaking off, etc. the preservation process will NOT work.
Now - my offer to anyone who bought one of the Curzon Plaques from me - You can return the original plaque to me and enclose $5.00 and I will send you a "treated" plaque in replacement for the original plaque you purchased from me. The $5.00 charge is for the cost of products I purchased, my time to treat the plaques and the postage to send the replacement plaque. ALSO IF YOU WANT A FULL REFUND OF THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE PRICE THAT IS AVAILABLE AS A STANDARD FEATURE OF ANY ITEM I SELL.
For anyone who did not originally buy a Curzon Plaque from me - you can obtain a "treated" plaque for $15.00 delivered.
I hope this information is a help to everyone who owns the older style plastic plaques. Try the "Preservation" technique and see how it works for you.
Take care,
Jerry "Learning something every day" Birl
