I guess it pays to travel all over the country in search of Gambling Memorabilia.
This is a cool story so I guess I will start at the beginning - that's always a good place to start. This past June on my way to the Convention in Las Vegas, I stopped thru East Cape Girardeau, Illinois at a flea market and inquired about old chips, etc. from the illegal casino which operated there in the 1940s - 1970s. I talked to several people and left some of my R.I.C.H. Business cards for people to contact me if they came across anything from the illegal casinos.
Fast forward to this morning around 11:00 am. I get a call from a guy in the Cape Girardeau area that got my telephone # from one of the people I had given one of my business cards to in June. The guy called me in regards to some dice he had recently purchased in a local estate auction sale. The dice are shown below. He also told me that he remembers "shooting dice" at the Colony Club in the 1960s when he was only 17 years old. He said you could do almost anything you wanted to do in these clubs back in the day.
These are neat old dice. The ones marked "East Cape Club" are supposed to have been used at the famous Colony Club. I had a lot of info on the Colony Club but had never heard it referred to as "East Cape Club".
I may (emphasize may) be able to acquire these dice, but I have a few questions about them. Has anybody else heard of the "East Cape Club" or the Colony Club being referred to as "East Cape Club" ??
You dice collectors - what value would you place on these dice i.e what would you pay for them ?? The Purple Krackle are holed and the dice with the Thunderbird design on them are - go figure - from the Thunderbird Casino which was also in East Cape Girardeau.
Please help me out with these as I would like to get them (I have to try to make a deal with the owner of the dice) and share them with the illegal club collecting community.
Thanks in advance for your help, opinions and values.
Take care,
Jerry "A little on the Illegal side" Birl
