I'm a Caesars Palace collector, mostly paper collectibles, but have had this cool 10k gold chip in my possession for about a year. This belonged to a retired Caesars Palace employee who was basically a "lifer" there. There has been some info out there already on this rarity, and to add what I've been told, this chip was meant to be given out to the finalists of the baccarat tournament held at Caesars Palace during either the late 70's or 1980 at the latest. The gaming commission stopped the use of this chip because the chip itself had material value given it was 10K gold and not the typical non value material of something made of plastic or clay, as a result, Caesars decided to give these out to their best customers as a gift and some went to Caesars best, long term employees, the rest were scrapped for there gold value.
Yes there was an Ebay auction a few years back where another of these went for over $5k, but the most recent Ebay auction was on March 10, 2013, that auction ended at a price of $1,052 (sold by "onenevadadollar"). Mine has a little less surface wear compared to that one and has a nice shine to it.
I'm going to put it up on Ebay tomorrow afternoon (4pm pacific time), but if someone wants it before I put it up for auction, I'm asking $1100.00 shipping included. If interested in buying, first email gets it. If I don't hear from anyone, look for it on Ebay Sunday night.
Thanks,
Phil
