The Redwood Bar and Grill at the Cal was where my Father would treat my Mother, my younger Brother and I to when he was given a "Compt". He loved to "play Craps". At the Cal was where I used to sneak a few pulls of the slot machine handle with the coins I earned from my paper route back in HNL. At the Cal was where my Father taught me how to play Craps when I turned 21.
At the Cal was where I took my young bride when I was 30. And, of course, we dined at the Redwood Bar and Grill.
All Hawaiian Islanders stayed at the Cal. I remember as a kid of 10 years young, my father always, at least once a year, took us to Las Vegas. The California Hotel and Casino was Downtown. We never stayed on the Strip. The Strip was for the dressed up, suit and ties Guys. Plus there was no white sticky rice with shoyu and no spam to eat with our eggs for breakfast.
At my Senior Age of 64, when ever I vacation back to Las Vegas, I make it a point to dine at the Redwood Bar and Grill.
We order the Alaska King Crab legs entree for PUPU's (appetizers) with our Martinis. Then the Prime Rib for dinner. Ahhh the memories! Great Awesome Family Going back Home Memories!!!
