Frontier $5: red w/ green or green w/ red?

Here's a Frontier Hotel-Casino chip I recently acquired -- a Bud Jones metal-center chip with 3 sets of incused dice & cards (or diecards).
The guides describe the chip as red with 3 green inserts. TCR # N1685, and similar listing on the ChipGuide.

But ... did you know there's an alternate description of this chip as being GREEN with 3 RED inserts?
In the Herz "Nevada Gaming Checks & Chips" book of 1995, Howdy illustrates the Bud Jones "puzzle piece" manufacturing process for these type chips.
It begins with the GREEN slug, to which 3 sets of RED 1-inch inserts are applied on each side, then the metal center is applied to finish.

On edge, you can see the continuous GREEN slug with a center green line separating the RED inserts on either side.

The Herz terminology never caught on for these type chips ... and, after all, we tend to think of $5 chips as RED ... but there was a time that this chip was cataloged as GREEN with RED, not the reverse.

Just a bit of trivia from nearly 20 years ago. vbg
