A blast from the Dunes past! .... this Vegas Classic opened in 1955 and they featured this giant fiberglass Sultan atop of their entrance. They remodeled in the late 1960's and moved the Sultan out on the Golf Course facing the then new Interstate 15 Freeway. A few year's later early morning the Golf Course maintenance crew found the Sultan half melted and all over the grass.

Apparently the Sultan had an electrical short from the sprinklers and caught on fire! He is now buried at the County Dump site on Hwy. 93 near Alamo, Nevada! Maybe he was from Baghdad and got what he had coming to him! And the the rest of the story!
