Today’s note comes from Costa Rica, a small country in Central America. It is a 5000 Colons note issued in August 2012. While the note has September of 2009, it was not until 2012 it was released. The noted were printed by Oberthur Technologies, located in France and it appears all but the 1,000-colon denomination are protected by Crane’s windowed security thread.
The front depicts Alfredo Gonzales served as President of Costa Rica from 1914 to 1917. He was unable to complete his presidential mandate following a coup d'etat on 27 January 1917. In the center background is the International Bank of Costa Rica. The back depicts images from the mangrove rain forest. Center bottom is a crab (Cangrejo Marinera) and a monkey (mangle Colorado). One of the notes in this series are speculated by the IBNS to be Banknote of the Year. Who knows which one. ENJOY!!!
