~~~ especially the rounds, are much larger than any American-made pieces I've seen which are only 1-7/8 to about 2-inches and they're virtually all finished with a natural, beveled edge (like nacre) unlike most of the home-grown ivories. Same with some of the British mateial being found in their colonies. Not too much of it out there, though... and quite costly (when a vendor knows what they have ).
I was looking at one boxed British set (all pieces very small in size and shape, but somewhat thick) that was comprised of ivory, nacre, bone and even a plastic-type material all w/ beveled edges and even concentric rounds, but not worth the effort to unload here in the USA.
