I posted this mirror to the chipboard a couple of days ago . I didn't mention, though, that the mirror had a glue malfunction . The front and the back are totally separated.
( Sorry...I should have taken a new picture after I cleaned the glass . The black specks all over the mirror are from the backing...it's clean and shiny now! )
My first thought was to use a glue gun to put them back together, but I don't think the glue would stay stuck to the glass part . Any thoughts? Contact cement?
Look at the pictures....though you probably can't see all the layers in the pictures, that I can see in person.
It looks like there were several steps to making this piece...
1. Mask off areas for the thermometer, the girl & the horse, and the name
2. Apply the yellow paint for the fence and the trim
3. Apply the mirror finish
4. Apply a semi-glossy black paint/finish
5. Apply a flat black paint/finish
6. Remove the masking
7. Use masking tape to attach the girl & the horse, and the name
8. Glue the thermometer to the recessed area of the backing
9. Put the string through the holes in the backing, and tie it into a hanging loop
10. Glue the front and the back together.
The glue is still on the backing piece, but it has pulled the flat black finish away from the semi-glossy black finish on the front of the piece. You can see an area at the bottom...under the girl's boots, where no glue was applied (I assume that was to avoid the possibility of glue oozing onto her boots).
When I first saw the piece, I thought that the name might have been loose and probably became crooked after the front and the back came apart. Now I see that the name is still securely taped...and since it's been crooked for well-over 50 years, I'll leave it that way .
Glue thoughts...????
