Just got home last night, after a couple of weeks and a couple thousand miles in Nevada and California .
No, we didn't collect any current chips or anything...though we did bring home a few slot cards and room keys!
We went to several antique shops, the monthly Rose Bowl flea market, Broadacres Swap Meet , and points beyond...
Here's a few of the things we managed to find...enjoy!!
We found some neat matches....
Notice the Sahara matchbook has the sphinx on it...I won't say it's a "first issue", but it's definitely early!
I remember when Broadacres Swap Meet (North Las Vegas) used to be about 85% "garage sale" type dealers. Now it's about 95% open air Mexican marketplace...but we still managed to find a couple of items!!
We didn't find much at the Rose Bowl either , but we found a few chips (and a neat menu that Is still somewhere in a pile of paper stuff...)
If you're still reading, you get to see my favorite items .
We were in Winnemucca, on Bridge Street, looking around to see if we could find where the Humboldt Hotel used to be...and see if it was still standing (it wasn't ). We saw this little shop and walked in. They had a lot of used video games and stuff that it took no time to look through. My husband was out the door, and I was right behind him when I got a glimpse of an interesting looking mirrored item in the front case. I bent down to look at it, and it said "Montes Club"!!!!!!
Unfortunately, part of the backing is loose, and part of the mirror is stuck to the backing, and has tarnished some, but still...how many of these have you even seen?
I called my husband back into the store, to look at it, and he asked the clerk to pull it out of the case. When he pulled it out, the clerk also pulled out the item right under it...which had been totally hidden from sight. Check this out...
Looking in our phone books, 1956 was the last year the Gem's phone number was 23; In 1957 Winne changed to the 7-character phone number system, and the Gem's number was MA 3-3230.
After we got those, we went across to the Sundance and played a little video poker. When we headed back to the car we passed the Club Barbershop, at 251 Bridge Street. Because of the "Club" in the name, I thought I should take a picture just in case it used to be a casino. I had my purse in one hand, a diet Pepsi in my other hand, and the money I'd just cashed out of the video poker machine was still in my hand too. Seemed like my camera was about the only thing not in my hand . I decided to skip the picture, and get into the car. Once I was settled in, I looked up Montes Club and the address had been 251 Bridge Street !!!!!! I tried to coax my husband into going back, so I could take the picture...but no luck .
We had a great time!
