a$$e$. I got a call from a guy who had some chips to sell. He got my name from a friend who I bought some chips from so he knows I am a buyer and reasonably safe to deal with. I go to his house (a 30 minute drive) and he has all sorts of stuff that he collects. He has telephones, wood boxes, glassware, etc. For chips he had a box of Hourglas mold chips still in the Rigdon box, 20 dice, a nice LVC ashtray, a box with an old set of chips like those used in europe (rectangular and round plain jetons, etc), a few other odd illegals and a $5 HCE mold Frontier chip worth $100. There was nothing spectactular but it was worth picking up if the price was right. I asked how much he wanted and he said $100. I told him I was thinking of $50. He said he wasn't going to be lowballed and I said that I was just thinking about that number. He said he was going to show me the door and would not even take the $100 he originally quoted. He was mad about getting lowballed and as I got into the car I got mad because he just got a free estimate from me as to the value of his chips. With all of the stuff in his house it is obvious that he had to negotiate to buy a lot of it so what is the big deal? I just don't understand some people. Here is a 70 year old guy with some chips he has no interest in and a willing buyer (and definitely the only chip buyer in the whole county). And then he won't even sell at his own asking price. GEEEEEEEZ!!
