We knkw what yourr experience has been Charles. Our son, Kenny, was able to puchase a home generator at Home Depot in Long Branch, NJ and by the time he got back home in Howell, NJ his electricity to his home was restored.
He then called me and asked if I coulld use it . . . to which I replied; "sure, common over". An hour later, Ken was at my front door with two friends to unpack and hook up the generator to our electric panel. We put the oil and gasoline in the generator and installed the wheels and begas to read the instructions by flashlights, when presto. . . the power was restored and we now have lights. No cable or internet service yet (thankfully I have a wireless tablet) but we are a lot more comfortable than we were ten hours ago.
Big problem as you mentioned, is gasoline. A neighbor told me that he waited in line for 2.5 hours at Costco to gas up his SUV. Not only are motorists filling up their gas tanks, they are in line for gasoline for their generators and chain saws too. I don't know why gas stations don't have stand by generators. Gasoline availability is not an issue, it is lack of electricity to the pumps that has closed down thousands of gas stations.
