I recently had a similar situation except mine was documented as such. I don't have the paper work, but Mike Vuolo might. Tracking said the package was in my post office. It then said it was back to the sorting facility. No explanation from anyone why it went back and forth, but i eventually got it. I am not sure if it was marked as delivered first before being returned to sorting.
