Last Friday morning, I printed out this tracking record from USPS indicating that a package I have been expecting had "arrived at Unit" to my Brick, NJ post office at 3:18 a.m. and was "delivered" at 9:59 a.m. Since Brenda was going to her aerobics class at Bally's at 10:00 a.m. I asked her to pick up the anticipated package after her class. She arrived at the post office around Noon and checked the post office box and found no yellow card notifiying her to pick up anything at the window. She inquired of the window clerk, who looked for the package but could not find anything for me after Brenda told him that I received tracking notification that the package had been received at the post office at 3:18 a.m. The postal clerk said to come back tomorrow, maybe it will turn up.
At noon on Saturday, still no package, no yellow card. I spoke with a supervisor who looked around the back of the room and insisted that the package had been delivered, to which I replied ... "not to anyone in my family". I asked what am I supposed to tell the ebay sender when he sees the same tracking record that indicates the package was delivered? The supervisor's response was ... "I don't know what to tell you, but I'll look into it"
Today, at Noon, I returned to the post office, checked my box, still no yellow card. I spoke to a different supervisor and told him that I was not satisfied with the explanation given to me on Saturday. He too looked around but found nothing. I pointed out to him that according to the delivery notification on the tracking record the item was "delivered" at 9:59 a.m. I asked how could that be when the post office window does not open until 10 a.m. and that my wife didn't get there until Noon? There is a sign that says the post office lobby is monitored by security cameras. Who was in line when the window opened at 10 a.m.? The sender is not responsible for something the Brick Post Office clearly lost, or possibly gave to another patron by mistake. The supervisor assured me that I would receive a call from someone within 24 hours.
Any suggestions short of claiming theft by a postal employee that a postal inspector should investigate?
